Title Clinical Services Manager

Supervises: All Clinical and patient care staff (RN’s, NP’s, PA’S & other clinical support staff)

Job Summary: This position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the daily delivery of health care to MEG patients. This position directs the daily clinical operations by supervising all clinical staff and establishing standard operating procedures to optimize work flow and function across both programs and clinic sites. Deals with evolving integrated health care delivery systems, technological innovations, an increasingly complex regulatory environment, restructuring of work, and more emphasis on “caring for our patients for life.”

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Manages clinical department with major focus on improving the following:
o Patient care experience;
o Business aspects of health care operations and;
o The quality of the health care provided.
• Collaborates with administrative staff and physicians, RN’s, NP’s, PA’s to optimize efficiency of a variety of related services ranging from inpatient care to outpatient follow-up care.
• Identifies and implements opportunities to build employee morale and individual motivation.
• Establishes and implements policies, objectives, and procedures for patient care. Reports on department results and outcomes.
• Participates in staff human resource planning and decisions, including hiring, training, supervision, and evaluating personnel and their work.
• Develops budgets, participates in expense management, and recommends equipment outlays and facilities.
• Ensures appropriate reimbursement by staying abreast of billing, collections, and payer matters as well as HIPAA and compliance with other healthcare organizations.
• Monitors patient service feedback and helps resolves complaints and service issues.
• Coordinates activities with other managers, administrative staff, and physicians.
• Serves on practice committees as assigned by Medical Director.
o Clinical Direction & Planning Committee
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Works with internal EMR / Practice Management System super-users to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness for all staff members and physicians.

Education: BSN or other clinical degree. On-the-job management experience is extremely helpful. Master’s degree in health administration or business administration is an opportunity for professional growth and development.​

Experience: Minimum 3 to 10 years of clinical experience with business/management responsibilities.

Other Requirements:
• Current state RN license or other clinical license as required by state.
• Current CPR certification.
• Other business and/or practice management experience helpful

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of health care delivery trends and implications for clinical specialty and for the medical practice.
• Ability to solicit input & feedback from the physicians regarding clinical operations.
• Knowledge of planning, budgeting, human resource management, and report development.
• Knowledge of payment/reimbursement systems and government/legal regulations and requirements related to health care.
• Development and implementation of clinical services quality assurance plan, work standards and policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge and experience of using EMR & Practice Management System.

Skills:
• Skill in organizational and interpersonal communications.
• Skill in restructuring work to make patient flow and other operational systems more efficient.
• Skill in motivating others to implement their decisions, which requires strong leadership abilities using tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and communication techniques.

Work Environment: Typically work in private offices. Frequent contact with patients maybe requested and/or required.

Title RN – Registered Nurse

Major Accountability: Responsible to the Nurse Team Leader(s) to deliver quality, safe patient care in an ethical manner. Collaborate and work under the direction of both the adult and pediatric physicians. Work with staff to ensure a friendly, safe and customer service oriented delivery of care.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain nursing standards and practices that are required and consistent with the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, licensing agencies and hospital policy.
  • Work in collaboration with physician to coordinate and manage care for a specific caseload of patients to assure immediate and ongoing care needs are met.
  • Provides leadership by serving as a clinical expert, educator, and liaison between the patient population and the medical, nursing, and interdisciplinary staff who care for them.
  • Produce and maintain all patient documentation following all regulatory guidelines and protocols. Documentation may including clinic notes, H&P/Discharge summaries, and referring physician updates.
  • Provide independent, collaborative, and medically delegated nursing functions for persons with epilepsy. Execute standards of nursing practice including assessment, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Maintain current licensure and basic life support certification.
  • Provide patient, families, hospital staff and community epilepsy education utilizing appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Identify problems, recommend and implement interventions and evaluate outcomes to ensure compliance with standards of clinical practice.
  • Initiate and/or participate in relevant research projects for publication, meetings or other professional presentation.
  • Establish and maintain patient database for ongoing research.
  • Maintain and enhance current nursing and sub-specialty knowledge base and skill through continuing education.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relations with all MEG employees and other departments as a responsibility in fulfilling all job functions.

Education/Licensure

  • R.N. degree from an accredited college or university.
  • BSN or MSN preferred.
  • RN license from the State of Minnesota Board of Nursing.

Position Requirements:

  • Three to five years nursing experience in epilepsy, neurology, internal medicine, or other specialty practice preferred.
  • Experience with adult and pediatric patients, preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both oral and written formats.
  • Ability to be detailed oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement as it relates to patient care issues.
  • Ability to remain calm and maintain professional behavior in stressful situations.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and lean multiple times per day.
  • Ability to provide first line intervention for seizure occurrences.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with varied levels of individuals. For example a range could be a patient to referring physician.
  • Maintain confidentiality/privacy as described in MEG’s policies and as described by HIPPA.
  • Abide by security rules as defined by MEG’s policies and as described by HIPPA.

Title EEG Monitoring Technician

Minnesota Epilepsy Group is a premier Level IV epilepsy program that specializes in the evaluation and treatment services for adults and children with intractable epilepsy. We provide both outpatient and inpatient care to a broad spectrum of patients through an interdisciplinary patient care approach.

  • Obtain medical history and perform physical exam based on age and history of patient.
  • Identify health risks and formulate diagnosis based on history and physical exam.
  • Maintain written chart notes with accurate documentation of changes of patient status, medical treatment plan and response.
  • Document all information gathered for admissions, initial clinic visits and surgeries.
  • Recommend non-pharmacologic therapeutic treatment options.
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic agents and maintain DEA.
  • Maintain current licensure and basic life support certification.
  • Provide patient, families, hospital staff, and community members education utilizing appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Serve as a community resource and educational liaison, participates in programs that advance knowledge of care of persons with epilepsy.
  • Identify problems, recommend and implement interventions and evaluate outcomes to ensure compliance with standards of clinical practice.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team to provide quality patient care and support to patients’ family.
